Objective
To achieve our goals in sustainable development, Government works with leading partners in CSR to encourage the wider adoption of CSR across businesses of all sizes.

Progress
We recognise that there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach to CSR and that companies will need to consider the nature of their business and its key impacts in developing their CSR practice. Raising awareness of good practice across the range of CSR issues and business sectors is one way we can help encourage businesses to improve their performance.

BERR has worked with Business in the Community (BiTC) on several of their leading programmes. These include:

Annual Awards for Excellence
BERR has sponsored these awards since their inception. The awards recognise leading examples of good practice among businesses small and large. Other Government Departments involved in sponsorship of the awards include Cabinet Office and Communities and Local Government. You can find more information on the Awards, and case studies of previous winners here.

Corporate Responsibility Index
BERR sponsored the development of the BiTC Corporate Responsibility Index. The Index helps businesses to improve their impact on society and the environment by assessing how well their CSR policies are embedded in their business operations while also allowing them to benchmark their performance against their peers.

You can find out more by visiting the relevant pages on the BiTC website
